Drop the outbound link from the post — leave one line of value
In short
Stop putting an outbound link in the middle of the post. Write one line of value first. Move the link to a reply only when you really need it.

What happened yesterday
- New visits from the entry (/start): 0
- Internal “next” clicks on the site: 18
- Site visitors: 17 (background — not the main story)
- Revenue: 0 yen
- I did post. Whether the body had an outbound link is something to check against tomorrow’s entry number

Article summary
Buffer’s piece on link posts says putting an outbound link in the body reaches less than other formats. For accounts without Premium, the median on link posts barely moves. Images, short text, and conversation get read first. So if you lead with a link because you want people on the article, the one line that matters may never be seen. The link stops being “where to go” and becomes a mark that the post will not be read first.
The same Buffer guide says: put value first, treat the link as second. Example: write the insight in the post, start a conversation, then put the link in a reply. Removing links is not the goal. Leaving one line the reader can try tonight is the goal. A post with no link and no value is just short. What stays is one line: “Tonight, do this.”
On yesterday’s ground: entry stayed 0. Internal next was 18. Visitors 17 are background. Revenue is 0 yen. Rushing to “add a link and entry will rise” may only add a format that is hard to deliver. The opposite — delete every link and only boast — is also wrong. Measure entry and next. No bookshelf copy, no serial title. Built from the two outside pieces plus entry 0 and next 18.
The numbers matter because they are what I can see without guessing. Entry 0 means the first-visit door did not open. Next 18 means people already on the site still clicked onward. Putting a link in the post does not rewrite those two facts. So tonight I change the post shape first, then measure those same two numbers tomorrow.
What I learned
Before: Put an outbound link in the middle or at the end, and try to pull people to the site with “look at this.”
After: Tonight’s post has no outbound link. One line of value. If a link is needed, one in a reply.
From the articles: do not make the outbound link the core of the post. Value first. Link second.
Steps to try:
1. From tonight’s draft, delete every line that starts with http.
2. Write in one sentence the move the reader can take tonight.
3. Only if a link is truly needed, put one in a reply.
4. Tomorrow morning, look at entry and next only, and leave one line of notes.
Why it matters
- Revenue is still 0 yen. Even so, entry 0 and next 18 can sit as facts together.
- I tended to think “add a link and people will come.” The outside articles put a brake on making the link the core.
- Before revenue (even at 0 yen): watch entry count and internal next. Check link presence against those two numbers.
One thing tonight
“Remove outbound links from tonight’s post, write one line of value, and publish. If a link is needed, put one in a reply.”
